Zecora Figurine by HowManyDragons Zecora Figurine by HowManyDragons
After making pony!Spike, I found myself wanting to take another crack at sculpting a pony figurine. I chose Zecora because I think she's great, and I don't have a base gray clay that matches her coat. I was planning to paint the entire sculpt, and Zecora definitely requires painting.

This project was a big experiment all around. I usually sculpt in colored clay, but I sculpted Zecora out of Super Sculpey, which is a kind of beige-y color, and I went for a more show-style body than with Spike. The gray base coat was an exciting foray into airbrushing, but the rest of her markings and jewelry were hand-painted. The painting took me a loooong time, and even though I tried to be careful, I made all sorts of mistakes - curse my shaky hands! Still, I think she turned out nicely, and at about three inches tall, totally adorable. I still like my dragon version of her better, but it was a fun experience and I might try making another pony sculpt sometime... hopefully of a character that has less finicky markings!

Zecora has been sold.

Wow- I totally admire your bravery! I'm too scared to hand-paint anything! :D My hands are so unsteady! But yours came out fantastic. Such nice clean lines!

Hahaha, I messed up so many times, I can't even tell you. I did a lot of repainting. xD
But thanks! She turned out all right in the end. :3

Long time no see; I don't get on Gaia much and it didn't look like you do either, but I just wanted to fangirl/boy over these.

OMG! All your MPL dragons and ponies and everything are SOOO amazing! I just got into MLP earlier this year and I just love it. I'm so excited to see two of my favorite things together, Rindi art and MLP!

All my loves,

Aw, hey there, Frank! It's always so nice to hear from you. Yeah, I haven't logged into Gaia in months - there just isn't anything there for me anymore.

I'm glad you're enjoying my submissions! I don't do a lot of fanart, but the ponies just translate so well into dragons - it had to be done! Plus the show is charming and I enjoy it. ^^ I have a few more pony-dragons to put up, and then we'll see what happens next. I'm trying to prep for Otakon while working and taking classes at the same time. It keeps me very busy. :]

I hope you and Tofu are doing well!

Oooo airbrushing! I have cursedly shaky hands too, which makes painting little details soooooo annoying. I usually try to avoid it!

I got a basic airbrush specifically so I could paint this piece. It's pretty fun, but I made a huge mess! ^^;
I try to avoid paint jobs too - most of my details are done in clay... This sculpture is definitely an exception. xP
