Otakon 2013 Dragon Display by HowManyDragons Otakon 2013 Dragon Display by HowManyDragons
Here's the dragon lineup for this year's Otakon!

In case you're wondering, the takeout boxes are what the dragons go home in - dragons like to travel in style and comfort!

I really wish I were going, but I didn't get selected in the lottery this year. D:
We'll see if I get lucky again next year.

Unfortunately there is way more demand than there are artist tables available, so Otakon's been running a lottery to accept AA applicants for the past several years. The odds of getting in have been about 1 in 3. I was lucky to get picked via lottery three years in a row, but I guess that winning streak had to end eventually. :)

Im getting the feeling that you sculpt for a living/hobby. Am I correct? :)

It's more of a hobby than a living, but yeah. Sculpting dragons is a small side business for me. :]

You are amazing at it!! Hey, could you let me in on something? How in the world do you make legs/arms?
Reply
:iconhowmanydragons:
HowManyDragons Featured By Owner Nov 5, 2013
I piece together simple shapes to make a more complex shape. Like the leg is a teardrop shape joined to a circle, and an arm is a teardrop shape joined to a cylinder. Obviously, there are extra steps like cutting in fingers and toes, but everything is based off of basic shapes.

Hey. I've got kind of a weird question. Every time I go to convention, I try and fix whats wrong with my booth. I cannot seem to find any sort of acrylic or plastic stand that RISES upward to store my dragons and save space. What are you using here? :)?

I'm actually using black foamcore and a lot of tape. xD
But I do plan to make a new stand for next year, probably out of acrylic.

well you don't have to play a pokemon game to make one, just look at a picture of it and you can make one :)

Yeah, but I'm not really interested in them, and I'd rather make dragons based on stuff I'm a fan of. Though to be honest, Mega Charizard X does look pretty badass!

You don't have to! My Etsy shop is available to customers world-wide. ;P
Also, Otakon's actually held in Baltimore, Maryland - you might be thinking of Otakuthon.

(Book marks page for future...) Says you're away so I will have to have a think about what sort of Dragon I might like... Have a nice holiday then.

Ah, might have confused it a bit, I seem to have a lot of Canadian friends on DA that seem to go to Otakon (or maybe I just confused the spelling. Could be that.)
