My Little Pony-dragons: Rainbow Dash by HowManyDragons My Little Pony-dragons: Rainbow Dash by HowManyDragons
Aaaand here's Rainbow Dash, looking about 20% cooler than my last rendition! I tried to give her a more actiony pose, like she's getting ready to take off or something. Her cutie mark was hard to do in clay - the cloud wasn't so bad, but the lightning bolt was super tiny and hard to put together. RD's mane is really difficult to represent in 3D. I'm still not satisfied with the result - will probably need to do another version sometime because I think I know how I want to go about it next time.

Rainbow Dash has been sold - she was awesome enough to be the first pony-dragon sold at Anime Boston. :)

I have a suggestion for if you make these guys again. If you did them in an Oriental style I think the manes and tails would look more natural, for some reason these ones seem a little out of place.

Just a little idea I had, I won't be offended if you don't do it.

Might be my favorite out of the pony dragons ^_^ on average, how big are all of the figures that you make?

They're usually about 2 inches tall, standing or sitting. If they're lying down, they're more of 1-1.5 inches tall, and about 3 inches long.

They usually take a couple hours to make. The pony-dragons take longer though, as they're pretty complicated.

Hmm, tough call - I really like using the metallic/pearl clays, and anything with rhinestones. I'm a big fan of translucent clay - the effect is really neat! For me, I get as much enjoyment from the sculpting process as the result. :]

What kind of sealer do you use to make it look glossy? I tried a spray kind and it ruined my clay ):

I used to use the Sculpey brand gloss glaze, but now I use Minwax Polycrylic, which is actually a floor sealant. Both are water-based, are painted on with a brush, and completely air dry in about 24 hours. Did you use an oil-based sealer? I know that can ruin clay, but I don't know much beyond that. Definitely look for something water-based.

I think I actually used acrylic sealer (bad idea) it was my first and last clay experiment LOL. I may try again with your advice ^-^
