I really like Spike, and since my last rendition of him was as a pony, I wanted to make him as a dragon again. So here he is, and I do think he is an improvement over the original. I thought it would be really adorable (and appropriate!) to have him holding a red heart gem, but I didn't have the means to acquire one, due to making him during Otakon. However, this did inspire me to pick up some heart-shaped rhinestones, so next time, I'll be prepared.
It's more about blending everything together so that it has an even texture than it is about getting rid of fingerprints entirely. That being said, I sometimes use a brush and isopropyl alcohol to erase fingerprints and remove bits of dust. Take a look at Keeping Clay Clean for more information.
The poly clay is pretty neat, because you can bake it in the oven to harden it, and then you can easily keep it forever. Also, it holds details very nicely, and you can buy it in all sorts of fun colors and effects. :]
